| 1. | What
is GuestFinder?
GuestFinder is a web-based directory of people available for radio, TV, and newspaper interviews. The site is designed for the media professional and others who wish to quickly and easily find guests or interview subjects. It is a subsidiary of NewsBuzz, Inc. |
| 2. | What
is the Web Site Address?
The address is: http://www.guestfinder.com or you can just type: http://guestfinder.com. On some browsers, you need only to type: guestfinder |
| 3. | How
much does it cost?
A 12-month membership is just $249. The membership can begin at any time during the year. NOTE: Once your listing appears and you have approved it, there are no refunds. (So when you first review your GuestPage, please review it carefully and check all links.) We do not accept all guests, so if you are not sure if your topic is a suitable one for radio interviews, please contact Lorilyn Bailey at guestfinder@gmail.com. |
| 4. | What
does the membership fee cover?
You receive the following:
|
| 5. | Can
anyone be listed as a guest?
People identified as authors must have their books listed in the R.R. Bowker book of published authors. (In other words, booklet authors are not considered authors for GuestFinder purposes.) GuestFinder reserves the right to: 1) reject any inappropriate listing 2) delete any listing from the directory and to withhold the listing fee if the person has misrepresented himself or herself in any way or if he or she does not act reasonably as an interview subject. |
| 6. | What
about the category, "Hosts of Notable Web Sites"? Who is eligible
to be a guest?
The category "Hosts of Notable Web Sites" are for owners, webmasters, the person responsible for, or designated as responsible for, the content of a web site deemed notable because of the particular service, product, information, news or entertainment it offers the general public. Preference will be given to those sites with good presentation. Before you apply for this particular designation, please email Lorilyn Bailey at info@guestfinder.com for approval. Not all web sites are considered notable. If you are an author with a notable web site, you are better off staying under the "Authors/Experts" category alone. |
| 7. | How
does the media know about this service?
We contact more than 1,000 radio, TV, and newspaper organizations twelve times a year. As appropriate, we also advertise in magazines and newspapers that cater to media professionals. GuestFinder was officially "open for business" on January 1, 1997, and media contact began at that time. Unlike our competitors, we are also listed throughout the Internet on journalism resource sites. Guests listed in GuestFinder are also encouraged to
spread the word by notifying their local radio, TV, and newspapers of
the service, linking to www.guestfinder.com from their web sites, and
including the web address in their promotional materials. |
| 8. | How
long is a membership period?
Twelve months. Note: Guests with incomplete applications will not be listed. |
| 9. | Why
should I sign up For this service?
If you are an author seeking to bring attention to your book, you will find no other promotional activity at any lower price that reaches a greater number of people. At $249 a year, that's a great investment! Most web directories do not regularly promote their site to people who use the site. When you are interviewed as a guest on radio or television, you obtain time on the air that would cost you hundreds, and sometimes tens of thousands, of dollars if you paid to advertise on the same show. If you take a look at the top-selling books, especially trade paper, on such lists as Publishers Weekly, you'll find that nearly all of the "top ten" have one thing in common, and that is media exposure. |
| 10. | Why
would media professionals want to use this site?
The web as a resource for journalists is exploding. More and more journalists are getting online and making it a part of their everyday work life. Right now, media professionals depend on radio/TV magazines, hard-copy directories, personal contacts, personal research, and luck to find interesting guests. Guest information listed in printed material is two months to a year old by the time it reaches the hands of the media. Media people often have to pay for copies of the publications. Access to GuestFinder is free. The guests listed in some of the magazines and directories are also members of a select few--they can afford the high prices required for listing. In comparison, the minute the guest information is added to the GuestFinder web site, it is available to the media professional. It is immediately up to date. If you, as a guest, come out with a new book, you can add that information to your web space during the year (see our price list), or better yet, you can add any frequently changing information to your own home page that can be linked to your space on the GuestFinder web site. Now, more than ever before, a far greater number of guests (and more important, a greater variety of guests) will be able to gain media attention. In the past, it cost several hundred (or thousands!) of dollars to place running ads in magazines or directories. Now, for only $249, you can get your message to the media...to the world...for a whole year! The world is full of interesting people, and GuestFinder makes it a little easier for the media to find those people. |
| 11. | May
publishers or publicists sign up their clients with GuestFinder?
Absolutely. You first need to have the guest's permission. |

| 13. | What
if I want to change my GuestPage in the middle of the membership year?
Once your GuestPage is published to the GuestFinder site, you need to alert us of any necessary initial changes within 24 hours. (We will email you when we post it.) Email, web site links, and phone number information is always free to change. We want you to keep your site useful. |
| 14. | Must
I list my telephone number in GuestFinder?
If you want to be easily accessible to the media, you must include a telephone number. Reporters and producers are usually working with deadlines, and they need to talk to you immediately. If you wish to list your agent's or publicist's number, that's fine. |
| 15. | Must
I have an email address to be listed in GuestFinder?
We highly recommend that you have an email address. If you have an email address, you will be accessible to a great many more people. GuestFinder administrators will use email to alert members of information. |
| 17. | How
do I know a caller is really from the media?
If you are in doubt, you can either ask to call back during business hours and confirm with the receptionist your caller's name, the call letters and type of radio or TV station, or newspaper. You can do a search on the Internet using http://www.altavista.digital.com or http://www.dogpile.com. Or try http://www.four11.com, http://www.switchboard.com, or http://www.bigyellow.com. A new one to try is http://www.radioinfo.com Some GuestFinder guests have received calls from a company that operates radio stations in different parts of the country. These radio stations may call you and offer you "your own radio show." Actually, they are selling you a one-hour time slot each week for a very large amount of money, and they tell you you can sell advertising space on your show. They don't have Arbitron ratings, and so this is not an opportunity we recommend. |
| 18. | What
if I don't get any requests for Interviews?
Because we cannot predict the actions of others, there is no guarantee that you will receive requests for interviews. However, because this web site has an easy-to-remember name, and because each month thousands of media people will be reminded of its usefulness, and because the Web is used by millions of people worldwide, there is a very good chance you will be called **if** they find your information interesting enough to share with their audience. (By the way, the reality is that non-fiction authors are more likely to be called than are fiction authors because non-fiction authors often share real-life advice.) |
| 20. | Who
determines the guests listed as Featured Guests ?
Email us for information about becoming
a Featured Guest. |
| 21. | How
is the IdeaCalendar used? Media professionals can go to the IdeaCalendar and select a month or holiday. He or she can then use the on-site Search engine to look for that month or holiday, and the appropriate guests will appear. For IdeaCalendar, your membership includes your choice of four holidays during your membership year, and these holidays will be placed at the bottom of your GuestFinder page. |
| 22. | What
kind of photo do you need?
The ideal photo is a color, professional head shot, no larger than 4 inches by 6 inches. It should be a recent photo, taken no longer than three years ago. Glossy photos work well. If the photo is copyrighted, we need a signed release from the photographer authorizing its use on the Internet. We reserve the right to crop the photo according to our design needs. Do NOT send us a photo that you printed from your computer; we are not able to scan it. It just doesn't work. PLEASE NOTE: We do not return photos. Do not send us original photos and/or photos you want returned. We do not return them. |
| 23. | What
happens if your server is down or if the Internet crashes or something?
Do I get my money back?
Because occasional system down times are a fact of life on the Internet, there will be no refunds. As of yet, the GuestFinder has suffered no more than a few minutes of downtime. |
| 24. | Where
is GuestFinder based?
GuestFinder is based in Raleigh, North Carolina, United States of America. |
| 25. | What
else do you want to tell us?
